From left to bottom: Zara swim shorts ($19), Topman T-Shirt ($6), H&M Soft/Thin Cotton T-Shirt ($17)

I am the kind of guy who loves colours. I am also quite dark in the summer so colours pop on me. How dark you ask? Well, according to my cousin I have enough tan for 6 people.

Growing up on an island where almost everyone is like a peacock, it became quite natural to parade in my Sunday best wearing the likes of pink and even fushia. When I was about 9 years old, my favorite shorts where bright cyan with magenta trimming and on the left side there was the cowboy cartoon character Yosemite Sam.

My girlfriend always wonder where I get my sense of style but little does she know that it came from not really having any style sense at all. But that is how creativity builds. It first starts by realising what works and what will never ever work in this lifetime or 5th, 6th, 7th … or Nth dimension.

if you are like me, everytime you go to the beach you want ot make sure you are kept occupied with either some light reading or music. In between you may want to stuff your face with your favorite snack. These are my beach essential. It includes my new found pal know to many as the iPad (no pad jokes please). This is like a studio in your bag. I have over 50 books on this thing not to mention videos and music and games and it is only the size of a sheet of paper.

I brought my my book of extraordinary creatures, “Life”. In the bag, I have Vita Coconut Water and Salted Roasted Peanuts.

The bag you see in the picture is a very old school Urban Outfitters bag I bought in 2002 when I started college. It is now fashionable again. Im glad I kept it.

And of course dont forget the Thong Slippers.

it is perfect for that casual beach look. Let me know your beach essentials by commenting below.

I’m a guy who only wears nicely fitted shirts. I have one rule that goes before all other rules when buying a piece of clothing. It doesn’t matter how great the color/quality/make is, – it must fit as if it were tailored specifically for me.

Here is an example of what I mean.

Back in the day it use to be hard to find fitted shirts and if you did managed to find a nice shirt that was tailor fitted, you usually would have to fork out next week’s grocery money (or monthly rent) to take that shirt home with you. This has changed. Stores like Zara, H&M and TopMan have brought the fit and quality that used to only be at the high end to the more affordable spectrum where people like me with a low budget dwell. I think Zara has the best quality of the 3 mentioned.

Here are 3 Things to look for when buying a fitted shirt.

  1. The seam where the shoulder meets the arm must never ever droop.
  2. The collar should have a proper collar stay and it should stand straight
  3. The sleeves should not be so long that it crumples. It should be long enough to meet at or sit just below your wrist but not too long to cause the sleeves to be touching your knuckles.

Good luck and remember “A woman likes to see your curves just as much as you like to see hers”

I am no watch collector, but I if you want to be taken seriously, you absolutely need a proper, handsome watch around your wrist. You don’t have to get something outrageously expensive. Now with that said, I personally would recommend that every guy have at least 3 watches.

  • The weekday watch
  • The weekend watch
  • and the Special Occasion/After hours watch

Weekday Watch

With the weekday you might want something with a single dial and not too flashy. It must be able to get you noticed among your peers and most importantly, by your boss. You shouldn’t break the bank on this watch but you shouldn’t skimp either. This watch can either be battery operated (Quartz) or automatic (manual wind up or motion driven). If you do get an automatic watch, you have to make sure that it has at least 21 jewels.  You usually see more jewels but it is not necessary to go beyond 21 jewels (Jewels are used to reduce friction in the watch)

Weekend Watch

The weekend watch should be stylish while being more rugged. Think adventure when you buy this watch. You need to have multiple dials. The face should be complicated. This might include month day and a tachymeter (This basically lets you use the dial to calculate distance and speed)

Special Occasion/After hours Watch

This watch is what you splurge the most on. It should be noticeable from across the room. It should be automatic and it should not be as complicated as the weekend watch but not as simple as the weekday either. This watch is the watch you should spend the most on. The watch’s face can have some hint of color other than just your plain ole black or white. The band shouldn’t just be plain alligator leather. It should stand out but still match your personal style.

Do I have any recommendations?

Yes I do. I am going to recommend cheap alternatives that will get you noticed.
Weekday: Try Theorem. It is a German made and looks pricey but is about $150 on eBay.
Weekend: Try Storm of London or Seiko. This will set you back $200 – $300
Special Occasion/After Hours: I would recommend Guess Swiss Timepiece Collection or Ebel. This will set you back $300-$400 on eBay or if you buy from Guess it will be around $600-$1100 and for Ebel $500 – $1200

I know the title says “3 watches”  but you can get 2. I wouldn’t recommend not having at least 2. If you can only afford 2 then buy a high end weekend watch that can function also as a special occasion watch.
